Sustained Abstinence from Food to Reduce Acne
Sustained Abstinence from Food to Reduce Acne
I'll never forget when my pal first suggested doing a fast to clear up my acne.
That person basically gave me my life back, and I owe him a lot.
Now, Friends, as he did for me a few years ago, I'd want to introduce you to what has been called "the greatest remedy" the physician within by Philippus Paracelsus. The results for clearing up acne quickly are promising.
To put it another way, what exactly is a fast?
A fast is defined as a period of time during which solid food is not consumed with the purpose of resting the digestive organs. This is not the same thing as hunger, but it has similar health benefits and is more effective at curing our bodily and mental illnesses than all the pharmaceuticals in the world.
Fasting is a common method of treatment for acne (and, dare I say, any non-fatal health ailment).
The Following are Some of Them
First, there's the full-on water fast, which, granted, needs to be done with great care or at a specialist sanatorium if it's going to last longer than three days.
Second, there's the juice fast, which doesn't require any special preparation and may be maintained for as long as you'd like.
Well, technically, this isn't a fast at all.
But when one survives for days on end on nothing but seasonal organic fruits...
You will undoubtedly benefit from mono-meals (a maximum of two) of only one type of fruit, such as apples in the fall or melons in the summer.
Instructions for Observing a Fast
Being so radical, fasting requires careful planning, but here are some suggestions based on my own experience.
To get ready for a fast, you should first wean yourself off acid-forming foods (often known as "junk food") and start eating more raw and cooked fruits and vegetables, which are the gentlest way to cleanse your colon.
Drinking a herbal tea laxative like "Smooth Move Herbal Tea" at this time, which is about three hours after dinner and an hour or two before going to bed, might help prepare the digestive system for the next day's activities.
Restore the body's alkaline state by drinking 1-2 quarts of unflavored lemonade first thing in the morning.
Before you begin fasting, make sure you're mentally ready for the challenge.
When you're fasting or eating only fruit, it's important to take it easy for a bit.
Stay away from microwaves if you can help it. I won't get into why here because that's a whole different article, but just take my word for it. You don't want to utilize this "convenience" device at all, not only while you're fasting.
If you're trying to wean yourself off of a water fast, try the juice fast for a few days, then the mono-fruit fast, and finally, you can do what I usually do and just eat a ton of fruit as your main source of nutrition, or you can include properly cooked roots and steamed or raw leafy vegetables.
Please don't revert back to your former diet of junk food. Why? Here are two pithy sayings: "You are what you eat" and "Let your foods be your medication."
To complement these dietary recommendations, it is important to practice good hygiene, which includes things like regularly switching out pillowcases, reserving a separate towel (or paper towel) for the face, avoiding harsh acne medications (I personally just use cool water and a gentle massage to clear up my skin), and keeping dirty fingers away from the face.
In my opinion, the second and third alternatives for treating acne (with respect to the fasting methods) are the most straightforward to implement. Attempt it if you don't mind. Just like it did for me, fasting can and will improve your skin and general health.
Cheers to achieving naturally radiant skin!
